  • The Joint Chiefs of Global Tax Enforcement or J5 as it is known, is a joint partnership between the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and Australian Taxation Office (ATO), the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Netherlands Fiscale Inlichtingen- en Opsporingsdienst (FIOD), UK’s HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), and US Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI)

 

  • The J5 brings together 5 government bodies to help fight against international and transnational tax crime and money laundering

 

  • An important area the J5 is focusing on is the rise in cryptocurrency crimes

 

  • ”The formation of the J5 demonstrates the serious commitment of governments around the globe in enhancing international cooperation in fighting serious international tax and financial crimes, money laundering, and cybercrime through the use of cryptocurrencies…”, stated Johanne Charbonneau, Director General, Canada Revenue Agency

 

  • According to their website the J5 will ”collaborate internationally to reduce the growing threat to tax administrations posed by cryptocurrencies and cybercrime and to make the most of data and technology.”
