1. What is your name?
2. Tell us your position and name of your company
I am a Director with Women’s Angel Investor Network (WAIN).
3. What’s on your schedule today?
Today is mainly a desk day. I did have two meeting with entrepreneurs who wanted to get my thoughts on their business models. That’s always enjoyable! Having founders share their passion with me.
4. What was the last thing you googled?
Well I was Googling names of entrepreneurs who have done well in the region. Potential LPs for Mindshift Capital. I sit on the Advisory Board, but Heather Henyon, is the Co-Founder. It is a natural evolution for her. She is the Founder of WAIN and now has started the first all female led VC out of MENA. Exciting times!
5. Which social platform do you prefer – Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram and why?
LinkedIn for business for sure! I find it is a great way to stay on top of topics that are trending and naturally to continue/build relationships with people I meet along the way. I have made great connections around the world via LinkedIn. I have had people connect with me to do speaking engagements. I have found firms to add to our pipeline of female founders. And very importantly it is a platform to discuss/engage a knowledgeable audience on any subject that I find topical.
6. Women in Tech – What does that term mean to you?
A field where women are still in the the minority. However, there is great change happening. A strong focus on the importance of girls and STEM, or girls who code is vital. Access to female role models and coaches/mentors will be key. In 10-15 years time, it will simply be ‘People in Tech’.
7. What is the one question you wish people would ask you?
Where you a child bride? You don’t look old enough to have a 12 year old son.
8. What’s the key to good networking?
Remembering peoples’ names…..which unfortunately I am abysmal at!!! Pick and choose the events you attend. Do not feel you need to be everywhere and go to everything.
9. What opportunity does tech offer women?
We talk about ‘tech’ because it is the area which can effect the most change. Provide greater opportunities for women either in corporations and/or as founders of their own firms.
10. What’s the best advice your Mum has given you?
It’s not so much what my Mom verbally states, but how she has lived her life. She is just this amazing woman that raised three kids, worked and managed a household. (sometimes with extended family living with us). And never, ever did she complain. She is still all about everyone, except herself.
11. What do you do to unwind?
I just love hanging out with my son and husband in the evenings. Time with friends and family. Travel, of course is great for perspective re-setting!
12. Which learning resource (on or offline) would you recommend?
Y’know I still love physical copies of books. Just read. Doesn’t have to be business related. The more genres the better! I have started getting a daily email from On The Dot Woman. As it says on the tin, ‘get your daily dose of thought leadership!’
