  • Digital detox is a new trend people are trying to follow, to spend time away from social media platforms and control their usage

  • With digital addiction becoming a serious health concern, technology companies are trying to address this problem themselves

  • Google’s annual conference (I/O 2018), promoted JOMO (Joy Of Missing Out), to encourage people to leave their phones at home. They found over 70% of people want to achieve a better balance. A dashboard coming to Android will show the user how much time is being spent on their mobile, and allow them to set data usage time limits (See Google’s vice president of product management, Sameer Samat talk through all the features below)

  • Apple shareholders earlier this year also addressed the problem of phone addiction among younger users, raising concerns of mental health problems

  • According to Tech Crunch, Instagram have recently confirmed that they too will be introducing a “Usage Insights” tool to show the user how much time they are spending on the social media platform

  • Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom tweeted confirmation of the new feature and added: ” Understanding how time online impacts people is important, and it’s the responsibility of all companies to be honest about this. We want to be part of the solution. I take that responsibility seriously.”
